He is proficient in the entire accordion family, including concertinas, bandoneons and the ancient precursor instrument, the sheng.
He completed his accordion studies at the Som Maior music conservatory and studied with accordionists Acyoli Machado and Adelar Bertussi as a child.
However, he considers his greatest experience to be the learning acquired during 12 years of living with Hermeto Pascoal, his musical godfather.
João Pedro's discography consists of ten CDs, two DVDs, a documentary and hundreds of collaborations in other works, including the composition and recording of the soundtracks for two films distributed by Paris Films.
João Pedro is an internationally recognized artist, who has performed on tour in several countries, including France, Germany, Portugal, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania.
The shape of his right hand was immortalized in plaster at the Museo Delle Impronte Grande Della Accordion in Vicenza - Italy, a tribute reserved for great names in the accordion world, such as Art Van Damme (USA), Frank Marocco (USA), Paolo Gandolfi (IT) , Richard Galliano (FR) , among others.
João Pedro is also one of the few accordionists who performs with classical orchestras, including the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, Minas Gerais Symphony Orchestra - Brazil, Paraná State Symphony Orchestra - Brazil, Milan Symphony Orchestra - Italy , Braga Philharmonic - Portugal, among others. Also, he has a documentary about his life, art and legacy entitled: "Universalizing the Accordion".
As a composer, he has accumulated a total of 1,200 works, with highlights including "Suite a Matilde de Canossa", which earned him the title of honorary citizen of Canossa - Italy.

(Unexpected Symphony - Unforeseen Symphony) with a duration of 50 minutes, which had its premiere recently in Rio de Janeiro by the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra.
